Facebook Enabled Comments

Yesterday I decided that I should look at allowing comments on my blog to be linked to a Facebook user account, rather than some random account that has to be registered for my site.

So I spent a few hours last night figuring out how I could integrate Facebook Connect with my blog.

As it turns out, if you want to integrate Facebook Connect into your WordPress blog there are quite a few options.   The problem being that all of the ones I found could be described by at least one of the following adjectives…

  • Bloated
  • Incomplete

I finally managed to settle on integrating an existing plugin, erring on the side of incomplete rather than bloated.  All told it took me about 5 hours of tinkering and coding to get the plugin integrated with my site and sidebar in a way that I “liked”.

At the end of the day, I’m not really satisfied with this solution, but it does satisfy my need to have comments be able to be linked to a Facebook profile and allows me to move on to bigger and better distractions.
